2024 TUSTIN AREA MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR APPLICATION FOR THE YEAR 2023

I. Criteria for Selection of a Tustin Area Man and Woman of the Year:

A. Volunteerism in Tustin: Volunteer work ranged over multiple areas/programs/activities within the nominating organization within the Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) boundaries. This work involved large, long-term areas of organization and implementation of the programs.

B. Leadership: Consistent and substantial leadership shown within the nominating organization over several years. Individual planned, oversaw, and coordinated duties of one or more major programs or activities. Leadership positions include board officers, committee chairs, and project leads.

C. Impact:

*Within nominating organization: This individual created and implemented several programs that made a positive impact within the organization in the Tustin area (within TUSD boundaries). This person’s impact helped to improve the visibility and reputation of the organization.
*To the Tustin area community: Result of this individual’s volunteer work resulted in positive outcomes in the Tustin area community, affecting a significant number of citizens. The impact improved the quality of life for the citizens of the community.

D. Volunteerism beyond the nominating organization: Volunteer work ranged over multiple areas/programs/activities in other organizations that must be within the TUSD boundaries. This work involved leadership, large areas of organization and implementation of the programs.

II. Instructions for Submitting Nomination Application:

  • For Volunteer Work in 2023
  • Selection and Presentation in 2024
  • Residence Requirements for Nominees:
-A Nominee must have lived within the TUSD boundaries for the five years preceding the full calendar year for which he or she is being nominated or,
-A Nominee must have owned and personally operated a business licensed within the boundaries of the TUSD for a minimum period of five years immediately preceding his or her nomination or,
-A Nominee must have been the on-site manager of such business for said minimum period of five years or,
-A Nominee must have done a significant amount of volunteer work in the TUSD boundaries for said minimum period of five years.
Note: A candidate may ONLY be nominated by ONE recognized organization or by ONE Life Member of the Tustin Area Man and Woman of the Year Committee (TAMWYC). The nominating organization may contact other organizations that the nominee has volunteered for or receive recommendations from TAMWYC Life Members to access information for the application.
All new candidates who are not selected shall be eligible for consideration the following year, however, a nominator is not obligated nor required to nominate the candidate for two consecutive years. A candidate shall not be nominated more than twice within a three-year period by any life member or organization.

A. NOMINATOR WILL BE EXPECTED TO HOST NOMINEE AND SPOUSE OR GUEST at the cost of $85 per person at the awards event dinner to be held on Friday, May 31, 2024. When your organization’s decision is made regarding the number of tickets desired, please:

B. A NOMINATION WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED UNLESS AWARDS DINNER TICKETS ARE REGISTERED AS PAID BY 5:00 P.M. ON Thursday, MARCH 14, 2024.

C. APPLICATIONS AND PAYMENT FOR THE NOMINEE DINNER TICKET AND GUEST TICKET MUST BE SUBMITTED AND ALL PARTS UPLOADED BEFORE OR by 5:00 P.M. ON Thursday, MARCH 14, 2024 TO BE CONSIDERED – NO EXCEPTIONS!
(Note: Early Submission of application is strongly encouraged to allow time for any necessary revisions that may be determined by the TAMWYC Chairs.)

D. REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICATIONS:

  • Do not include activities or programs for which the applicant received a stipend, salary, or any form of payment.
  • Do not include activities or programs that took place outside of the TUSD boundaries.
  • Please spell out acronyms the first time written so that the reader knows what it stands for: Ex. BITP (Broadway in the Park).
  • For letters A & D in the application, please list the name of the organization, followed by a list of bulleted information of the program or work, followed by the years in which the program/work occurred and brief details of the work.
    • Example:

      *Opportunity Raffle Co-Chair for Broadway in the Park (BITP), 2015-2020
      *Vice President of Communications/Social Media, 2015-2022
  • For letters B & C in the application, please list the name of the organization, followed by a list of bulleted information detailing leadership roles, state the years, length of time involved in planning and implementing programs. Give a list of bulleted information telling the impact of their volunteer work, how it improved the Tustin community and those who benefitted from the volunteer work and programs.

      1. Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts (TACFA)
      *As Opportunity Raffle Co-Chair, collected and organized 60 gift baskets for the week-long BITP event, raising over $10,000 which helped fund nine different TACFA art and music programs; five of these programs fund art and music programs within Tustin Unified School District for students, grades K-12.
      *As VP Communications/Social Media, this individual publicized all of TACFA’s nine different art and music programs throughout the year, took photographs, posted on multiple social media venues, and sent out eblasts to over 2,500 people for each event involving TACFA.
